Procedure Care Information

Pre-procedure Botox & Filler information

Please follow the guidelines below to prepare for your treatment and ensure the best results.

  • Schedule your Botox / dermal filler appointments at least 4 weeks prior to a special event such as a wedding or a vacation to allow for complete healing and optimal results.
  • Avoid ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, Naproxen, Celebrex, Ginko Biloba and other elective medications for at least 10 days before your appointment to prevent bruising as these medications may increase your risk of bleeding / bruising. You should also avoid aspirin and supplements unless you take them for medical reasons.
  • Please do not stop taking any prescription medications without your prescribers’ permission. We can discuss whether your prescription medications will complicate your aesthetic treatment goals at your consultation.
  • Avoid alcohol: Avoid drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Alcohol can thin your blood, which can increase bruising.
  • Avoid other substances: Avoid coffee, topical products, waxing, bleaching, and tweezing the day of your treatment.
  • Take Tylenol: Some recommend taking Tylenol about an hour before your appointment to help with any discomfort during the treatment.
  • Inform your provider: If you have any skin conditions that require prescriptions, let your provider know at least seven days before your appointment. You should also let them know if you have a history of cold sores.
  • Arrive clean: Come to your appointment with a clean face, without makeup or moisturizer.
  • You may consider obtaining some optional treatment for bruising prevention prior to your appointment. Arnica ointment can be used three times a day after your treatment (purchase on-line prior to your appointment so you have it available). You may also purchase Arnica capsules online prior to your appointment (take three times a day for four days). Consult your primary care physician prior to taking oral Arnica to be sure there are no drug interactions with your current medications.

Post-Procedure Botox

All precautions mentioned are to minimize the chances of displacement of the neurotoxin.

  • Do not receive facial, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion for 1 week after Botox treatment.
  • Avoid massaging or touching the areas injected for at least 4 hours following treatment.
  • Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for at least 6 hours after your treatment (helps prevent migration of Botox).

Post-Treatment Dermal Fillers

  • Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area to avoid displacement / migration of the product.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours post treatment.
  • Avoid excessive sun or heat for 72 hours.
  • Avoid lying face down or putting pressure on the face for at least 4 hours following treatment.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for the remainder of the day after treatment.
  • Avoid wearing tight ponytails or headbands immediately after treatment.
